Handcuffed accused snatched

Criminals snatched a handcuffed accused from police custody, leaving a policeman injured at Chanpur village under Pirganj upazila of the district on Friday night.

Police on Friday night and yesterday arrested 22 people on charge of their involvement in the attack on police and taking away the accused.

The law enforcers said, at around 9:00pm on Friday, a team of police raided the house of Altaf Hossain, 35, an accused in four robbery cases and son of Younus Ali of Chanpur village and arrested him.

On the way to Pirganj police station, his accomplices suddenly attacked the police team and snatched the accused with handcuffs, leaving a police officer injured.

Injured Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Milon was admitted to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex.

Md Akhtaruzzaman Prodhan, officer in-charge of Pirganj Police Station, said they arrested 22 people on charge of attacking police and snatching the accused.

A case was lodged in this connection.  However, police could not arrest the accused till filing of this report at 2:45pm yesterday.
