Hacker used friend’s Facebook ID to spread coronavirus rumour: CID

He had hacked his friend's Facebook account to take revenge for an incident that happened years ago.

Using the hacked account, he circulated rumour about "deaths from coronavirus". 

Not only that, he created a fake Facebook account and communicated with police with it to share information on the rumour that he himself had spread using his friend's ID, so that police could arrest the latter.

"Hacker" Naimur Rahman alias Nayeem (19) was, however, not successful and he ended up in jail as Criminal Investigation Department arrested him for the crime.  

"We first detained his friend who told us that his Facebook ID was hacked on March 23. We found proof of his claim and later located Nayeem -- leading to the arrest from Jatrabari area around 11:30pm on Tuesday," Khairul Alam, additional superintendent (Cyber Crime Unit) of CID told The Daily Star.

The CID official said Nayeem was a professional hacker and used to hack people's social media accounts on contract.

"He wanted to kill two birds with one stone -- to create chaos and take revenge on his friend -- by spreading rumours through Facebook," the official said.

A case was filed with Kadamtali Police Station in this regard.
