Imam shot dead in Rangamati

A man was shot dead and two others sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight between the activists of PCJSS and UPDF at Chaillachhari under Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The identity of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
The injured are Ananda Chakma, 21, son of Kali Kumar Chakma, and Shanta Chakma, 24, son of Jyoti Kumar Chakma. Both hail from Jurgachhari area of Laxmichhari upazila.
The one-hour gunfight between the armed members of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity and United People's Democratic Front   started around 6:00am yesterday for establishing supremacy in the Chaillachhari area, said Mohammad Mafiz Uddin, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, quoting locals.  
The injured were treated at Manikchhari Upazila Health Complex in Khagrachhari. Later, they were moved to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The body of the deceased was sent to the morgue of the medical college for an autopsy, added the police official.
The PCJSS and UPDF have denied their involvement in the gunfight.
In a separate incident, an imam of a mosque was gunned down reportedly by one of his former students at Rangipara under Longudu upazila of Rangamati yesterday.
Al Amin, 13, opened fire on Hafez Imam Hossain, 35, the iman of Halipad-3 mosque, at point-blank range yesterday evening, reports our Rangamati Correspondent.  
The critically injured man was admitted to Longudu Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, said Anjan Kumar Dev, officer-in-charge of Longudu Police Station.
“Locals have detained the boy and handed him over to us,” added the police officer.
