A Dhaka court today placed BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy on a two-day fresh remand in a case filed with Turag Police Station for creating anarchy in Dhaka.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the remand order after showing him arrested in the case.

Earlier in the day, the Detective Branch of police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer on competition of a three-day remand in another case filed over Wednesday's Bakshibazar violence.

Police earlier showed Goyeshwar arrested in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station over the attack on ruling party's Netrakona-1 MP Chhabi Biswas at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, several hours after detectives picked him up from a house at Siddheshwari. The arrest came a day after he vowed that the 20-party alliance would hold rallies across the country blocking roads if the government hindered their rally at Bhawal Badre Alam College ground in Gazipur.

On Wednesday, around 200 BCL leaders equipped with rods and sticks swooped on BNP activists who gathered at Bakshibazar area to stage a showdown centring party chief Khaleda Zia's appearance at the makeshift court in two graft cases.
