Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said the government is working to ensure quality education in light with the international standard.

"There was no standard and quality of our education in the past. And so we want its improvement upholding the international-standard," he said.

The minister said discussions are taking place to ensure quality education in Bangladesh, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

Referring to the Awami League-led governments’ achievement in the education sector, he said the United Nations has recently appreciated Bangladesh's education system.

Nahid was speaking to reporters after inaugurating two blocks of a dormitory of Sylhet MC College which had earlier been destroyed in an arson attack.

Nahid has again warned of stern action against those who were responsible for the arson.

"I have already met and talked to the home minister. No culprits will be spared," he said.

On July 8, 2012, activists of the BCL and Islami Chhatra Shibir got into a clash on the campus, leaving at least 20 people injured. Following the clash, at least 42 rooms of the college hostel were set on fire.
