BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia this evening said the government is going to restore the parliament’s authority to impeach Supreme Court judges with an intention to conceal its misdeeds and immoral activities.
"The government wants to establish its absolute control on the judiciary so that trial of its misdeeds and immoral activities is not held in future," she said.
She warned that the trial must be held and the offenders have to be punished.
The provision to impeach the Supreme Court judges by parliament was in the constitution of 1972 and that was annulled by late president Ziaur Rahman, she said.
Khaleda was speaking during a view-exchange meeting with the newly elected pro-BNP upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen of the Rangpur division at her Gulshan office.
