Govt to regularise job of 6 HC judges

The government will take steps to regularise six additional High Court judges once the Chief Justice (CJ) sends a recommendation in this regard by mid June.
The additional judges are - Justice Ashish Ranjan Das, Justice Mahmudul Hoque, Justice Md Badruzzaman, Justice Zafar Ahmed, Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain.
The then president Zillur Rahman appointed the six as HC additional judges for two-year tenure on June 13, 2012.
Law Minister Anisul Huq told The Daily Star on May 16 that the government would not request the CJ for recommendations. He, however, expressed hope that the CJ will make necessary suggestions on time.
The CJ recommends services of additional HC judges based on their overall performance.
This recommendation is sent to the law ministry. The procedure then is for the law ministry to send the recommendation to the prime minister's office which forwards it to the president for his approval.
Once the president confirms the services of judges, the law ministry issues a gazette notification to this effect.
After being regularised, the judges take oath form the chief justice, as per the constitution.
The Awami League-led grand alliance government has so far appointed 60 HC judges after assuming power in early 2009.
The number of HC judges at present stands at 90.
