Govt to evict hawkers from Dhaka footpaths

Dhaka City Corporations, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police will evict hawkers from the capital's footpaths in phases.

The decision came at the 22nd meeting of the National Road Safety Council in Ramna restaurant yesterday. However, no time frame is fixed for the project.

Before launching the drives, the hawkers will be issued with notices to leave the places within one month, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also chairman of the council.

The meeting also decided to repair 44 black spots on highways, remove illegal level crossing gates and ban human haulers like Nosimon and Korimon on highways across the county; and construct 20 “bus bays” in different bus stoppages in the capital, and set up sufficient traffic signs and signals on the city streets within next one month.
