The government is planning to hold the future elections to all local bodies in a partisan manner, Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said today.

Ashraf, also LGRD and cooperatives minister, added his party will place a bill in parliament in this regard.

Once the bill is passed, political parties will be able to nominate candidates in the local government polls including city corporations, municipalities and upazila and union parishads.

The AL spokesperson was speaking at a public rally in Mirpur of the capital this afternoon.

Earlier on February 12, the AL Central Working Committee, highest decision-making body of the ruling party, unanimously agreed that all local body polls should be held in a partisan manner.

A meeting of the 72-member committee asked party general secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam to take initiatives in this regard.
