A day into the recovery of 8.86 kilogrammes of gold from two vacuum cleaners, customs officials today seized 28 gold bars weighing over three kgs from an IPS at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong this morning.

They also detained the IPS owner Md Nizamuddin, 29, hailed from Raujan upazila of the district, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Mosear Rahman, assistant commissioner of the airport's customs.

The estimated price of the gold bars is Tk 1.40 crore, Mosear said.

Nizamuddin came from Dubai by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on June 30 but his luggage reached the airport today.

While delivering the luggage including an Instant Power Supply (IPS) to Nizamuddin, the custom officials found the IPS too heavy, the customs official said.

On suspicion, customs broke the IPS and found 28 gold bars inside it, he added.

Yesterday, customs recovered 76 gold bars weighing over eight kilogrammes from two vacuum cleaners at the airport.
