Customs intelligence officials recovered at least 936 gold bars worth about Tk 46.80 crore from a Biman flight that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.

Acting on a tip-off, the customs officials interrogated a civil aviation officer and later recovered the smuggled gold, Mostafizur Rahman, deputy director of Customs Intelligence told The Daily Star.

Earlier, the customs officials obtained a piece of information that the smuggled gold would be cleared by a civil aviation official named Anis.

The gold bars weighing 106 kilogrammes were recovered around 2:30pm from a toilet of the flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines no-058.

The aircraft from Dubai landed at the airport at 8:00am, the official said.

The gold bars were found in 14 packets which were wrapped with black and blue clothes, Rahman said.
