This November 27, 2013 Banglar Chokh photo shows 160 smuggled gold bars, weighing 27kg and worth about Tk 8 crore, seized by customs officials from a toilet bin of a flight from Malaysia, which arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

Customs officials seized 30 gold bars worth about Tk 1.5 crore from the possessions of two cleaners of Bangladesh Biman at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong today.

The cleaners are: Shuklal Das of Firingibazar and Jibon Kumar Das of Mirsarai areas in the port city, reports our Chittagong correspondent.

Shuklal and Jibon went to clean the Dhaka-bound flight BG 048 which was coming from Dubai and had a stopover at the airport around 10:30am, said Md Mosear Rahman, assistant commissioner (AC) of the airport customs.

After cleaning the flight, when the two were passing the VIP Lounge, a security officer of the Civil Aviation challenged them for their suspicious movement, AC Mosear added.

Informed by the security officer, customs officials searched Shuklal and Jibon and found the gold bars weighing around 3.5 kilograms kept in their shoes, he said.

In primary interrogation, the two told the customs officials that they found the gold bars beneath a seat of the flight, he added.

The gold bars will be deposited at the temporary volt of the Bangladesh Bank, the customs official added.
