Girl goes thru' horrific abuse

Girl goes thru' horrific abuse

How much pain can a minor girl endure?
Two years ago, a 13-year-old girl was sexually harassed in a village mosque by Abdus Salam Miah, who used to teach Arabic to children. After her protests drew attention of the locals, the man was sacked from the job.
Last week, Salam's son Mujaidul Islam Miah Zafar avenged the “insult” to his father.
Zafar, who teaches at a madrasa where the girl studies in the seventh grade, “handed her over” to police for the “crime” of going to a village fair with a boy, a van puller of her age.
A police officer then handed down “punishment for the offence”.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahman of Nazirpur Police Station forced the teenagers to strip and do sexually provocative acts. And he photographed and videoed it all on a mobile phone.
Worse still, the ASI raped the girl.
The boy and the girl, both from a village in Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur, narrated the abuse to The Daily Star. Our district correspondent already came to know about the incident after the photos and videos spread like wildfire.
On Wednesday afternoon, while the pair was on their way to a village fair, Zafar's accomplices including Mamun, Yusuf, Ezabul, Inu, Dalim, Tuku, Emran and Saiful forcibly took them to Rajlaxmi Health Complex.
Zafar, who was waiting there, called the police.
And soon, ASI Rahman came to the health complex. He took the boy and the girl to a room and started the obscene photo shoot.
Around 30 minutes into the harassment, he handcuffed both, took the girl to another room and raped her, alleged the victims.
Once the ASI was through with his nefarious acts, Zafar took over.
He forced the teenagers into marriage without registration. Kamruzzaman Moti, a local Jubo League leader and school teacher, was also present there, said witnesses.
The victims said Abdur Rahman released them only after extracting Tk 3,500 from their families.
After the incident drew media attention, the ASI along with Kamruzzaman and Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Md Nasiruddin of Nazirpur Police station went to the victims' houses on Sunday and warned them not to disclose anything.
Contacted, the police officer refuted the allegations. He claimed he went to the health complex when locals informed him about a boy and a girl being engaged in “unsocial activities”.
"I did nothing. In fact, there were at least 25-30 people with me in the office room at that time,” he added.
Rahman also claimed he handed over the minors to Ashim, another teacher at the madrasa and a relative of the health complex owner.
Ashim rejected Rahman's claim. He told our correspondent, “Abdur Rahman came and demanded the keys of the health complex. And I complied.”
None of Zafar, his father Salam, Kamruzzaman and Nasiruddin could be contacted for comments.
Abdul Khaleque Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Nazirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star, “No one has filed any case against ASI Abdur Rahman.”
He claimed, “My officer is innocent.”
The victims, however, sent a written complaint to Superintendent of Police SM Aktheruzzaman by post yesterday, said Taposh Kumar Bhokto, a local lawyer who helped prepare the complaint.
The SP and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Nazirpur Mrinal Kanti Dey said they have come to know of the incident and would take steps.
