Girl gang-raped tying brother with tree

A teenaged-girl was allegedly gang-raped in Navaron area in Sharsha upazila in Jessore on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent from Benapole.

Police quoted victim's family members as saying that the 17-year old girl, along with her elder brother, was going to their residence from Navaron Bazar area on a motorbike around 10:00pm on Tuesday.

A gang of 5/6 allegedly led by one Raju, waylaid them, took them to a nearby jungle and violated the girl there, tying her brother with a tree and left the scene.

Bayzid Ahmed, in-charge at Baghachhra police camp, said villagers rescued them in the morning and informed police.

We are trying to nab the criminals, said Bayzid.

In Noakhali, a schoolgirl was allegedly raped and later murdered at Kabilpur village in Sonaimuri upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The deceased is Kajal Akhter, 14, daughter of Jahangir Alam of the village and a Class IX student at Kabilpur High School in the upazila.

Ashraful Alam, officer in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station, said Jahangir and his wife Nasima Akhter, keeping Kajal at home, went to visit a relative's house at a neighbouring village of the upazila at around 7:30pm on Tuesday and did not return home.

Miscreants might have entered her room sometime at midnight, violated her and hung her body from the ceiling to prove it a case of suicide, the OC said, adding that the matter would be clear after getting the post-mortem report.
