Girl abducted, brother stabbed dead in Joypurhat

Criminals abducted a schoolgirl after killing her brother in their house in Joypurhat Sadar upazila last night.

Police said the abductors stabbed Md Sabuj, 28, to death when he tried to resist them from kidnapping his sister, a Class-IX student at a local school.

The family members said the police are yet to trace the whereabouts of 16-year-old Khadiza Khatun, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

According to locals and the family members, a gang of 14 to 15 criminals led by Md Shipon of the same upazila went to the house at Paikartoli village around 11:30pm Friday night with a hired microbus.

The kidnappers, wielding sharp weapons, left the place along with the girl. They stabbed Sabuj indiscriminately leaving him dead on the spot while he approached towards the abductors responding to the crying of her sister for help, they added.

Police later sent the body to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy.

In an overnight raid, the law enforcers arrested five persons in connection with the incident.

The arrestees have been identified as Jahurul Islam, Razan Mia, Manik Mia, Saurav and Roni, police said.

Joypurhat police said Shipon allegedly hired the youths hailing from Nataipara village in Bogra Sadar upazila.

Contacted, Md Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, said police have been carrying out raids at different places to arrest the mastermind of the incident.

However, nobody is yet to file any case regarding the incident.
