Giant WWII bomb recovered in Cox’s Bazar
A giant bomb, used in the World War II by British military, was recovered from a remote area of Taknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
Locals found the bomb -- weighing around 100 kilogrammes which is 32.5 inches in length with 33 inches in radius -- at a remote hilly area near Baharchhara when they were cleaning a jungle to plant trees under social afforestation project yesterday afternoon, said Mizanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Baharchhara Police Camp.
On information, a team of police rushed to the spot and marked the area as restricted with red sign, Mizanur, who led the team, told our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
Maulobhi Habibur Rahman, chairman of Baharchhara Union Parishad, told The Daily Star that the bomb might be used by British military during the World War II as they had installed several camps in the area between the years of 1929 and 1945.
