OC files GD over threat

An officer-in-charge has filed a general diary over his safety with his own police station.

In his GD filed on Tuesday, Monirul Islam, OC of Bauphal Police Station in Patuakhali, said a man accused of extortion and attempted murder had threatened him over the phone.

“At 10:11am on Tuesday someone called me on my government cell phone and introduced himself as Shahin. He told me to leave the police station or quit the force. He threatened me saying, 'I will see how you do your job here',” Monirul told the Daily Star.

Shahin, 38, is an unemployed man, the officer said, adding that police had pressed charges against Shahin in four cases about two months ago.

Monirul joined Bauphal Police Station on October 17 last year. He worked in two other police stations in the district before.

“I filed the GD only to bring the matter under law. I also informed the higher authorities about the matter,” the OC said.

Contacted, Shahin refuted the allegations.

He said the OC was angry at him as he had filed a case against him last month.

Shahin said he had a long-standing feud with some of his neighbours over land.

He added that the OC had asked him on January 22 to go to his office and settle the issues with the neighbours.

He claimed that the neighbours had assaulted him in front of OC Monirul after he went there.

“Later on, I submitted a complaint to superintendent of police against the OC and filed a case with Patuakhali senior judicial magistrate court,” he said.

He claimed that he called the OC on Tuesday to tell him that some of his neighbours had threatened him.

The OC told The Daily Star steps would be taken according to court orders.
