Second grader raped in Jashore

A second grader was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Jashore's Jhikargachha upazila on Tuesday.

The incident came to light on Wednesday when the girl's mother filed a case with Jhikargachha Police Station in this connection, said Nazmul Hossain, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of the police station.

The accused, Nur Islam, 43, is a resident of Kamarpara village in the upazila.

Victim's mother, while talking to The Daily Star, said Nur Islam raped the girl in a garden adjacent to their houses in the afternoon while she was collecting woods.

Hearing screams, the locals rushed to the spot and rescued her daughter, she said, adding that they could not capture the perpetrator.

OC Nazmul said the victim was sent to Jashore General Hospital for medical tests.

Police are conducting drives to arrest the accused, he added.

THREE RAPE ACCUSED ARESTED

Police arrested three accused on Wednesday night from the capital's Badda and Kuril areas on charge of raping a tenth grader in Khan Jahan Ali area of Khulna city on Monday.

The arrestees are Sagor, 22, Bellal, 30 and Shafiq , 26.

Victim's father filed a case with Khanjahan Ali Police Station accusing the three, who were on the run since the incident.

Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said police arrested Bellal from Dhaka's Badda area by tracking his mobile phone.

The rest two were arrested from Kuril area based on the information provided by Bellal, the OC added.

The girl went on a bike ride with Sagor. At one point, he took her to an abandoned building and called his accomplices. Later, the three raped the girl and fled the scene

The victim is now undergoing treatment in Khulna Medical College Hospital.
