Prothom Alo Jt Editor Mizanur Rahman Khan no more

Noted journalist Mizanur Rahman Khan, the joint editor of Prothom Alo, died at a city hospital yesterday.

He was 53.

He was one of the few journalists who became known for their expertise on writing about judicial matters.

He tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to a hospital at the beginning of December.

As his condition deteriorated, Mizanur was put on life support on Saturday at Universal Medical College Hospital, where he died hours after a cardiac arrest yesterday afternoon.

Although Mizanur tested negative for coronavirus at one point of the treatment, a CT scan on December 28 found that his lungs were severely affected.

Mizanur left behind his wife, three children, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Journalists, politicians, and civil society members expressed deep shock at his death and prayed for eternal salvation of the departed soul.

Namaz-e-janaza of Mizanur will be held today at Dhaka Reporters Unity, Jatiya Press Club, and in front Prothom Alo office respectively at 10:30am, 11:00am, and 12:00pm.

He will be laid to eternal rest at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in the capital's Mirpur after Asr prayers today.

Mizanur was first admitted at the city's Gonoshasthya Nagar Hospital on December 5 after he tested positive for coronavirus on December 2.

As his health kept failing, he was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali on December 10. He had been treated at the hospital's intensive care unit.

Doctors pronounced him dead around 6:05pm yesterday.

Mizanur was admitted to the "Covid-19 Zone" of the hospital, doctor Zahid Ahmed Siddiqui told Prothom Alo. After he tested negative on December 15 and December 16, Mizanur was taken out of the "Covid-19 Zone".

Mizanur was born on October 31, 1967 in Nalchity, Jhalakathi.

He had been a journalist for almost four decades. He had honours and a masters degrees on accounting from BM College in Barishal.

He was best known for his articles on constitution, law, judicial matters, and independence of the judiciary.

His first book on appointment in the judiciary was published in 1995.

His notable books include "Shongbidhan Ebong Tottabodhayak Sarkar Niye Bitorko" (1995), "Bangladesh-er Rajneetir Shonkoter Boishisto" (2003), "Tattabadhayak Sarkar: Oshubho Chinho" (2009), "1971 American Gopon Potro" (2006), and "American Nothigulite Mujib Hotya" (2013).

Mizanur had been studying "the genesis and philosophy of the first constitution" and different aspects of the country's Liberation War.

Mizanur also worked for Samakal, Jugantor, and Mukto Kantho.

Prothom Alo expressed deep shock and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. The daily also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Jatiya Press Club, Dhaka Reporters Unity, and Editors Guild expressed deep condolences.

Awami League-led 14-party alliance, BNP, Jatiya Party, Workers Party of Bangladesh, and Gonoshasthaya Kendra also expressed condolences.
