‘Gunfights’ With Cops: Two killed in Ctg, Satkhira

Two suspected criminals  were killed in “gunfights” with police in Chattogram and Satkhira early yesterday.

In Chattogram city, the dead Emdad, 38, of Sher Shah area, was an accused in hawkers’ leader Ripon murder case, said police.

Officer-in-Charge Priton Sarker of Bayejid Bostami Police Station said the law enforcers conducted a drive at Majhir Ghona area around 2:30am to arrest Emdad.

As soon as had the police reached there, Emdad’s cohorts opened fire on the team forcing them to retaliate, said the OC, adding that the miscreants fled at one point.

After the “gunfight”, police found the bullet-hit body of Emdad on the ground.

He was declared dead on arrival by doctors at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, said the OC, adding that they found a firearm and five bullets from the spot.

In Satkhira Sadar upazila, a suspected robber Zakir Hossain Gazi, 38, of Matiadanga, was killed in a “gunfight” with police around 1:30am.

He was an accused in 13 cases with different police stations, said Mirza Salahuddin Ahmed, additional superintendent of Satkhira (Sadar circle) police.

He was found dead after a “gunfight” between police and “robbers” at Damarpota area, he said, adding that they seized a firearm and two bullets from the spot.
