Daily Covid cases drop to 10-month low

8 more die

The health directorate yesterday reported 305 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest daily number in 10 months after the first three cases were recorded in the country on March 8 last year.

The authorities reported the number after 12,135 samples were tested in 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The positivity rate stood at 2.51 percent, also the lowest in 10 months.

The government had reported 312 new Covid-19 cases on April 19. At that time, the positivity rate was two percent.

With the new cases, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 537,770 in the country, according to the press release.

In the same 24 hours, eight people died from Covid-19, it said, adding that the death toll from novel coronavirus reached 8,190.

The overall death rate was 1.52 percent.

At least 417 Covid-19 patients recovered during the 24-hour period.

With this, the total number of recoveries rose to 482,841 and the recovery rate stood at 89.79 percent.

Among the eight deceased, six were males.

Two were aged between 31 and 40 years, one was between 41 and 50, one between 51 and 60 and four were above 60 years old, added the release.
