Dhaka protests harassment of its diplomats in Pakistan

Bangladesh has asked Pakistan to refrain from any "disturbing" activities as it has reports that diplomats posted at two Bangladesh missions in Islamabad and Karachi are being kept on "unnecessary and excessive" watch.

Pakistan High Commissioner Shuja Alam was summoned on Monday at the state guesthouse where Mizanur Rahman, secretary (bilateral, training and consular), registered Bangladesh's protest at harassment of Bangladeshi officials and staffs working at the two missions, according to diplomatic sources.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will soon send a diplomat as counsellor (political) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, foreign ministry sources said.

However, it could not yet be known who will be sent.

The post remains vacant as Maushumi Rahman was transferred to join the Bangladesh embassy in Lisbon, Portugal as its counsellor.

Earlier, Pakistan "requested" Bangladesh to withdraw Maushumi from Islamabad without showing any valid reason.

On December 23, Fareena Arshad, second secretary (political) at Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, who was reportedly involved in financing militancy, left for Islamabad following her withdrawal.
