Ctg Checkpoint: ASI hurt as gunman opens fire

A bike-riding criminal shot an assistant sub-inspector of Chittagong Metropolitan Police at a temporary checkpoint in the city's Sholoshahar gate-2 area yesterday afternoon.

Abdul Malek, ASI of Panchlaish Police Station, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds in his right knee.

Police picked up one of the “attackers”, Abdul Hakim, from the spot while his four accomplices managed to flee, said Abdul Warish, deputy commissioner of CMP (north zone).

Mohiuddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of the police station, said cops signalled two motorbikes to pull over around 5:00pm.

As the bikers stopped, police found that the number plates of the vehicles covered with paper.

“All of a sudden, one of the criminals opened fire on police, leaving Malek injured,” the OC told The Daily Star.

He said police suspected that the criminals were muggers.

Police seized the two motorbikes from the spot.

The CMP deputy commissioner said they were interrogating the detainee.
