A four-day dance workshop ended at Mymensingh Gymnasium yesterday evening. The workshop was been organised by Novice Foundation and dedicated to late Yunus Ahmed Bablu, an eminent dance performer and Ustad of Mymensingh.
Shilbi Mohammad, leading exponent of classical Indian dance and Kathak choreographer joined the workshop as the lead facilitator. Snahta, Boishakhi, Mili and Shima, all students of Nrityanchal Dhaka assisted him at the workshop.
The third edition of the workshop in Mymensingh was organised with a view to supporting the preservation and expansion of all forms of artistic education, and to promote the advancement of arts and infuse a sense of aesthetics among younger generations.
One hundred and fifty children from educational institutions of the town participated in the workshop.
Earlier, a discussion was held on the opening day of the workshop on Thursday, chaired by chairman of Novice Foundation, Rezaul Karim Aslam. The speakers were of the view that there is no alternative to dance in the promotion of traditional culture in the subcontinent. To nurture inner creative talents of the children, arts -- particularly dance -- can be a catalyst, they said.
Theatre personality Saiful Islam hosted the opening session.
