A Rajshahi court today sent former Rajshahi mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu back to jail in the attempt-to-murder case of a police officer in 2011.

Metropolitan magistrate Biswanath Mondol rejected his bail prayer and sent him to jail after Minu, the joint secretary general of BNP, surrendered to the court, said Sazzad Hossain, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Rajshahi metropolitan Police.

Minu was accused in the charge sheet of the attempt-to-murder case of Khan Mohammad Shahriar, former officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station.

Shahriar was shot during a clash between BNP-Jamaat men and the police on June 4, 2011.

Police, then, filed a case against 119 BNP-Jamaat men.

Later on March 10, police added 11 more BNP men including Minu in the charge sheet of the case.

Earlier Minu was sent to jail in the constable Shiddhartha murder case on February 24.

He was freed on bail from the High Court on March 9.

Seven BNP men including Abdus Sobhan, a ward councillor of Rajshahi City Corporation, were also sent to jail in another case of attack on the police during the opposition called blockade programme on November 27, 2013.

The seven were on anticipatory bail from the HC.

They surrendered to the Rajshahi court at end of their bail period.
