The police authorities in the Dhaka metropolitan area have asked people to finish outdoor celebration of Bangla New Year on Monday by 6:00pm.

Benazir Ahmed, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, made the call for organisers of different socio-cultural fronts, which are going to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, in a bid "to avert any untoward incident".

The DMP organised a press conference at its Minto Road media centre this noon to brief journalists about the security arrangement, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

Security measures have already been beefed-up in the capital and elsewhere to celebrate the first day of the Bengali New Year in a peaceful manner, the DMP commissioner said.

Check post will be set up at 22 strategic points in the capital so that none could create any chaos during the celebration, he said.
