The family members and relatives of a missing Awami League activist formed a human chain at Siddhirganj Power Station in Narayanganj today demanding his return alive.

They alleged that Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members abducted Mohammad Ismail, 42, and demanded Tk 2 crore from them before the sensational abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.

Ismail, a contractor by profession and resident of Kanchpur area, has been missing since February 7, his wife Josna Begum said.

She claimed that they received a letter demanding Tk 2 crore from the family after Ismail went missing, reports our correspondent at the event.

The letter added that Ismail's family has to pay Tk 2 crore to Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, who was then commanding officer of Rab-11 in Narayanganj if they want him back alive, Josna also said.

She said they had managed Tk 1 crore to give Tareque but the Rab official was sent on pre-mature retirement on May 6 over his alleged involvement with the abduction and killing of seven people including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam.

She also said that they did not inform law enforcers as they were receiving threats from Rab members.
