Family business source of wealth: Bodi

Family business source of wealth: Bodi

Awami League lawmaker Abdul Rahman Bodi, who faced ACC's three-hour interrogation for accumulating a huge amount of wealth during a short period, claimed today that family business was the sources of his wealth.

Bodi, lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 constituency, revealed the information to reporters emerging from the Segunbagicha office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

During a brief conversation with reporters, Bodi also blamed the media for spreading propaganda against him.

According to media reports, Bodi's wealth had increased by around 351 times during the tenure (2009-2013) of the last AL government.

He also alleged that the media hatched the conspiracy along with the opposition against him.

A team of the ACC led by Ahsan Ali, deputy director of the ACC, had interrogated Bodi for three hours from 10:00am today to investigate the allegation over his accumulating wealth which is inconsistent with his known source.

The detail about Bodi's interrogation however could not be known immediately.

The AL MP faced the anti-graft body's quizzing at its Segunbagicha office in the capital following a summon of the ACC, sources said.

On February 4, the ACC summoned Bodi to appear before it today (February 16) to reveal how he had amassed such a large amount of money during the short period.

Today's interrogation is a part of the ACC move to investigate wealth of seven AL lawmakers after media reported that their wealth had increased a memorable amount during the last tenure of the ruling party.

In this regard, the commission on January 22 launched probes into corruption allegations against the seven former ministers and lawmakers of the ninth parliament including Bodi.

The six others are: former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque, former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman, former state minister for housing and public affairs Abdul Mannan Khan, lawmakers of the 10th parliament -- Aslamul Haque ( Mirpur)-- and former MP Enamul Haque and Abdul Zabbar.

Meanwhile, the ACC summoned Abdul Mannan Khan to appear before it on February 20 to face its interrogation over an allegation of accumulating wealth illegally.

The ACC is also scheduled to interrogate former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman Talukder on February 23 and former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque on February 24 respectively.
