A Dhaka court today granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a vandalism case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Waaz Kurni Khan Chowdhury passed the order after Fakhrul surrendered before the court in the morning.

The case was filed for vandalising vehicles and preventing police from discharging their duties in the capital's Jatrabari area during a countrywide blockade programme enforced by BNP-led 18-party combine (now 19-party alliance) on December 9, 2012.

On April 30, the same court issued an arrest warrant against the BNP leader in the case after police pressed charges against him.

Fakhrul’s name was not mentioned in the first information report (FIR). He was charge-sheeted in the case later.
