Fakhrul blasts PM for comments on HC judges
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam today lambasted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her remarks about High Court judges for issuing arrest order for three former Rab officers in connection with Narayanganj seven-murder.
"The prime minister even did not leave judges from giving threat. She [Hasina] has given direct and indirect threat to judges," Mirza Fakhrul said at a press conference today.
The BNP leader's statement came a day after the premier's press briefing at Gono Bhaban where she commented on the arrest order for three Rab-11 officers who are now being investigated.
Hasina said yesterday: "When we were still investigating the matter … and before that investigation was complete … you tell us how come a High Court bench orders arrest of the three [Rapid Action Battalion officers] ?"
"Collect information from them; give that [to us]. It will help us as well... If the two judges of the bench that gave the arrest order provide detailed information, it will help expedite the case," she added.
Speaking at the news briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office,
Fakhrul described the current term of Hasina as “the era of formalin”.
Referring to premier’s comment that they have kept BNP alive with formalin, Fakhrul said: “We all know formalin is a very harmful chemical. She also said formalin is everywhere now. In fact her rule is the era of formalin.”
The media briefing was organised to reply Hasina’s Saturday’s comments on BNP, war crimes trial, mid-term election and other issues.
Pointing to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s recent comment that the party was giving time to the government to rot fully, Hasina in the briefing said, “BNP itself has been rotten by not taking part in the [January 5] election. But we [government] are keeping BNP alive with formalin.”
Fakhrul said, “We want to say that BNP is not run by anybody’s mercy. BNP is going ahead with the love and support of people.”
The BNP spokesperson alleged the prime minister’s way of talking, use of words and attitude at the press conference was devoid of political courtesy.
