Fake N95 masks: HC upholds bail order for JMI chairman

The High Court today upheld a lower court order that granted bail to JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing Ltd's Chairman Abdur Razzak in a case filed over supplying fake N95 masks for the use of healthcare professionals.

The court also ordered the investigation officer to complete the probe of the case in six months.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim came up with the verdict after rejecting revision petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission, challenging the lower court order.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state and lawyers MK Rahman, SM Shahjahan and Nahid Sultana Juthi argued for Razzak.

On October 15 last year, a Dhaka court granted bail to Razzak in the case.

Later, the ACC filed the revision petition with the HC challenging the Dhaka court order.

The ACC on September 29 arrested Razzak from Segunbagicha in Dhaka.

Earlier, ACC interrogated Razzak over the allegations of supplying 20,000 fake N-95 masks to 10 hospitals.

The ACC also filed a case against seven people including Razzak on charges of embezzling money over the supply of the fake masks.
