Factional clash leaves 5 BCL men hurt in Khulna

Establishing supremacy the reason

Two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists yesterday locked horns at Government Azam Khan Commerce College in Khulna city, leaving at least five BCL men of both the sides injured.
Of the injured, Khulna city unit BCL vice-president Sabuz Hazra and BCL activist Rinku Farazi were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Sources in the college said the supporters of Sabuz and another city unit BCL Vice-president Ahaduzzaman Dollar clashed with each other around 12:00pm.
Sabuz, who is also a student of the college, alleged that Dollar and his men equipped with sharp weapons had chased them while they were assisting the honours first year admission seekers on the campus.
The attackers also stabbed them when they took shelter at a clinic in front of the college, he said.
Brushing aside the allegation, Dollar, however, said Sabuz and his men attacked his followers while the latter were collecting admission forms for the admission seekers.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 2:30pm, said Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Police also arrested six college students in connection with the clash.
The arrestees are Kazi Ahaduzzaman Dollar, Gopal Chandra Saha, Md Shamim, Sakib, Ashish and Jwell, he said.

After repeated attempts, The Daily Star could not contact the college principal, as his mobile phone was switched off.
