A former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was shot in a gun attack by unknown miscreants at Dhanmondi in the capital this morning.

Enamul Haq Shamim, a member of Awami League central committee, has been whisked off to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.

He received two bullet in his left hand, hospital sources said.

Shamim’s SUV (Prado) came under the gun attack around 9:30am when he along with his uncle Nasir Hossain was going to Stamford University, said victim’s driver Kamal Hossain.

Three miscreants riding on a motorcycle opened fire at the car near Ibn Sina Hospital around 9:30am, leaving Shamim injured, Dhanmondi police said quoting the driver.

He was first taken to Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp.

He was shifted to the CMH in the afternoon for better treatment.

On information, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed visited Shamim at the DMCH.

In a prompt reaction, the DMP commissioner told journalists that the law enforcers have already been asked to nab the attackers as immediately.

Meanwhile, the BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession from Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University protesting the attack.
