Ershad too takes oath

Ershad too takes oath

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has been sworn in as a lawmaker of the 10th parliament this morning.

After that, two others -- Nasim Osman, elected from Narayanganj-5 on JP ticket, and Nazmul Hassan, elected from Kishoreganj-6, on Awami League nomination, took oath of the office as Members of Parliament, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to the JP Chief and the two other MPs.

Ershad was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka since December 12, at the Jatiya Sangsad, party sources said.

The JP had contested the 10th parliamentary election to uphold the constitution and save democracy, Raushan said in the press conference a day before taking oath of office.

Asked if Ershad would take the oath as an MP of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad, she said, "We are going to be sworn in. Ershad will also take the oath."

On December 12 night last year, law enforcers picked Ershad up from his Baridhara residence and took him to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka after he declared not to contest the election if it is not held in an inclusive manner.

Since then, he has reportedly been confined there.

However, Awami League leader Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Moinuddin Khan Badal are yet to take oath as lawmakers.
