One killed in elephant-human conflict in Chattogram

A man died in Chattogram after being trampled by a herd of wild elephants.

Farmer Abdul Khaleque was trampled to death by a herd of 15 elephants when he was working on his paddy field around 10:00am, said Shofikul Islam, divisional forest officer of Chattogram South Forest Division.

Elsewhere in Rangamati, a man, whose identity could not be confirmed yet, was found dismembered at BFDC area in Kaptai early today.

Md Rafikuzzaman Shah, divisional forest officer of Rangamati Forest Circle (South), told The Daily Star they assume a herd of elephant may have trampled the man to death as his injuries suggest.

Quoting locals, the forest officer said the man used to roam around the forest areas making him an easy target.
