Man dies in elephant attack in Chattogram

A man died in elephant attack in Podua union of Chattogram's Rangunia upazila this evening.

The deceased Abu Tayab (55), was a resident of Narischa village of Podua union.

The incident took place at 7:15pm.

Md Selim Uddin, cousin of the victim and president of Podua Union Jubo League, told The Daily Star that Tayab was coming from the kitchen market.

The elephant was at the yard of the victim's house. When Tayab entered the yard, the elephant grabbed him with its trunk and hit him against the ground, he said.

The man died on the spot, he added.

Masum Kabir, range officer of Rangunia under Chattogram South Forest Divsion said they came to know about the fatality.

"We are trying to make the elephant move to the forest," he added.
