Elephant found dead beside road in Bogura

An elephant was found dead beside a road in Bogura's Sadar upazila this morning.

Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, chairman of the Namuza Union Parishad, said locals spotted body of the animal at Solagar intersection under Namuja union early in the morning and informed him, who later notified it to police, reports our Bogura correspondent.

Visting the spot, Noor Zahid Sarker, sub-inspector of Bogura Sadar Police Station, told the correspondent, "We have learned that its mahout Enamul Haque was looking after the elephant in his village Damgara under Bogura's Shibganj upazila. He might have dumped the body here last night."

The SI also said the elephant was brought to Bogura from Bandarban. A circus party in Mahasthangarh used to exhibit the elephant at fairs.

He said they came to know that the animal was sick for several days.

"We are trying to reach the owner but his phone is switched off. We are looking for the mahout but he is still missing," said the police official.

Bogura district livestock officer Md Mosharraf Hossain said they will know the reason behind the death after autopsy.
