Another dead dolphin found in Halda River

Chattogram's river police recovered another dead dolphin from Ramdas Munsir Hat area under Hathazari upazila, along the Halda river, this morning. Only three days earlier, corpse of a dolphin was recovered from the same spot.

Prof Manzoorul Kibria, an eminent Halda researcher, said that the locals came across the mammal at Ramdas Munsir Hat area and informed river police about it, reports our correspondent.

The body was later recovered by a police team, who believed that the death was caused by a fishing net, he said.

"The death of dolphins on a regular basis is a warning sign. As Halda has been recognised as a Bangabandhu Fisheries Heritage Site, we must investigate this situation as soon as possible," he said.

Till today, 31 dolphins were found dead in Halda river since 2017, he said.
