Man held, fined for illegal keeping

The forest department with the help of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued 32 wild birds and two Rhesus monkeys at a bird market at Tongi in Gazipur.

A trader, identified as Golap Hossain, was fined Tk 20,000 for keeping those illegally, said Wildlife Inspector Asim Mallick of Dhaka Forest Department.

As per Bangladesh Wildlife (Protection and Safety) Act 2012, trapping, selling, buying, consuming or caging wild birds is a punishable offence.

The wild birds include: 12 Rose Ringed Parakeets, one red-breasted parakeet, five eurasian collared doves, three emerald doves, two spotted doves, two oriental turtle doves and five tricolour Munias.
