Width, depth of Karnaphuli River decreased: Survey

The width of the Karnaphuli River has decreased to 410 metres from 930 metres at the Shah Amanat Bridge point, according to a survey of Chattogram Nodi O Khal Raksha Andolon.

The organisation surveyed it from March to April and presented the report at Chattogram Press Club today (May 22, 2022).

Aliur Rahman, secretary of the organisation presented the report at a press conference.

The width of the river at Shah Amanat Bridge point was 930 metres, but it is now only 410 metres, stated the survey.

The survey also found that the depth of the river has decreased continuously. Its depth at the mouth of Chaktai Canal is only two feet. Several landmasses have awaken at various places along the river.

Environmentalist, Prof Noman Siddique, River researcher Idris Ali, Manoj Kumar Dev, member of the organization Pear Ali, were present at the press conference, among others.
