DoE Chattogram fines 13 businesses Tk 13.89 lakh for environmental damage

Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram region has fined 13 businesses Tk 13.89 lakh for damaging the environment and not renewing their licenses.

The fine was imposed on them after a hearing at the DoE office in Khulshi area of the port city.

Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram region told The Daily Star eight brick kilns from Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Cox's Bazar were fined a total of Tk 12.40 lakh for long chimneys that causes air pollution.

Five others businesses including two diagnostic centers were fined Tk 1.49 lakh for not renewing clearance license, he added.
