Cyclone Yaas: Bangladesh Navy starts emergency relief operation at Mongla

Bangladesh Navy has started emergency relief operation at Mongla and surrounding areas following the landfall of Cyclone "Yaas".

Very severe cyclonic storm "Yaas" hit west Bengal and Odisha state of India on May 26.

In the coastal region of Bangladesh tidal surge of three to four feet more than the usual level was seen.

Poor people of south-western coastal region along the Sundarbans got inundated due to the tidal surge.

This inundation has hampered the daily livelihood of the people in the coastal region.

To fight against this natural disaster Bangladesh Navy started emergency relief operation in coastal areas of Barishal, Khulna, Bagerhat, Patuakhali and Pirojpur districts. On behalf of Bangladesh Navy Commander Flotilla West is conducting the relief operation in Mongla region.

On May 27, amid cautionary signal no three, 600 people were provided with relief (rice, dal, flour, gram, salt and drinking water for 10 days) along with Tk 30,000. Relief was distributed in Dangamari area near Dangerkhal of Khulna District.

The relief distribution by Navy in coastal region will continue amid this natural disaster.
