2 more CTG shipbreaking yards banned from importing ships

Ministry of Industries slapped ban on two more shipbreaking yards in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram, from importing ships, after recent accidents claimed lives of workers there.

A four-month ban was imposed on Mother Steel and S N Corporation, said Md Mizanur Rahman, deputy secretary (ship recycling) of the ministry.

"We took the action so that the yard authorities can focus more on safety issues," he added.

The ban was imposed on November 16. The ministry also banned Khawaja Shipbreaking Yard in the same area on the day.
