Three arrested with tiger hide in Satkhira

The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested three people with a tiger hide from a house in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.

The arrestees are Hafizur Sheikh his nephew Ismail Sheikh, and Asif Sheikh, all from Sindhatali village of Munshiganj union of the upazila, reports our corresponden,t quoting Rab-6 Satkhira camp captain Major Galib.

Based on a tip-off, a team of Rab-6 conducted a drive at Hafizur's house around 5:00pm yesterday and found a tiger skin preserved in a room. At this time, three people were detained, he said.

Earlier in January 2021, Rab and the East Sunderbans Forest Department in a joint drive arrested a man believed to be a member of poacher gang from Sharankhola upazila.

Wildlife poaching continues rampantly in the Sundarbans while the poachers frequently hunt tigers, deer, and other wildlife using traps and guns.

According to wildlife officials, traffickers are active in smuggling tiger skins and bones out of Bangladesh, as those have a huge demand in the global market, especially in Southeast Asia.
