Human-elephant conflicts: Affected people get compensation

Twenty one people, who got affected in elephant attack under Cox's Bazar Forest Division (North), have received monetary compensation worth Tk 7,45,000 from Forest Department today (June 11, 2022).

They received the compensation at a ceremony held at Fasiakhali Range office under the Forest Division.

Anwar Hossen Sarkar, divisional forest officer of the division, told The Daily Star that the family of a victim who died in elephant attack in March this year received Tk 3 lakh as compensation.

The remaining 20 people received the money as their crops and homestead were damaged due to elephant attacks, he added.

Bipul Krisno Das, conservator of forest (CF) of Chattogram Forest Circle, was present at the ceremony as chief guest.
