Deaths of 9 zebras in Gazipur Safari Park: Probe body formed

A five-member probe committee has been formed to find out the reason behind the deaths of nine zebras at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur's Sreepur.

The committee was formed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change today, said a press release of the ministry.

Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, additional secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will be the convener of the committee, and Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, deputy secretary (Environment-2) will be the member-secretary.

Jahangirnagar University's Zoology department head Prof Dr Mohammad Monirul Hasan Khan, also a conservator of Forest of Wildlife and Nature Conservation Circle, Dhaka; and former chief veterinary officer of the Central Veterinary Hospital Dr ABM Shahidullah are among the committee members.

The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report to the ministry within 10 working days.

Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin yesterday in a meeting instructed the authorities concerned to form a committee to investigate the deaths of nine zebras at the safari park this month.
