At least 32 pigeons were killed in an attack by bees at Ulipur upazila in Kurigram today.

In addition, three people, six cows and two goats were also injured in the bee attack, reports our Kurigram correspondent quoting injured Union Parishad member Radhanath Barman.

The accident took place at the house of the UP member at Farajipara village of Tobakpur union in the upazila this afternoon, who was also injured in the incident.

The other two injured were Purnima Rani, wife of the UP member, and her mother Surbala Rani, according to the UP member.

Radhanath said there was a big beehive at a mango tree, adjacent to the courtyard of the house.

"When a few hawks or kites attacked at the beehive this afternoon, the bees began the rampage. They attacked the pigeons of the house and eventually 32 pigeons died. Besides, three of my family members including me were injured in the bee attack."

"On top of that, six cows and two goats of the house were also injured in the bee attack," said the UP member.

The bees later moved elsewhere.

On information, police and doctors of the local health complex rushed to the house.

Dr Subhash Chandra Sarkar, officer of Ulipur Upazila Health Complex, told the Daily Star that the pigeons died due to bee sting poison.

The injured people were given first aid and they are doing fine now, he added.
