A group of young people caged and drowned to death an Asian Palm Civet in Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram.

The animal allegedly preyed on their pigeons, reports our Chattogram correspondent. The incident took place at Doulatpur village in Boroutan union of the upazila on Thursday.

The drowning and subsequent death of the animal was recorded and shared from a Facebook ID of one Saifullah Khaled Tasin who said the reason behind drowning the animal to death was that it preyed on 20 of his pigeons.

The Asian Palm Civet is considered a species of Least Concern on the IUCN Redlist and it occupies a broad range stretching across much of Southern Asia. Yet declining habitats have forced the animal to venture out of its home range and look for available food sources.

Saifullah Khaled could not be reached over phone as it was was found switched off.
