Thirty-eight crocodiles have hatched at the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre in the Chandpai Range of the Eastern Sundarbans.

The crocodiles hatched from the eggs laid by crocodile Pilpil at the centre's incubator this morning (August 22, 2022), reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

For the first time, 100 percent of the eggs hatched at the Karamjal Crocodile Breeding Centre, said Azad Kabir, officer-in-charge of the breeding center.

Azad Kabir said crocodile Pilpil laid 38 eggs on June 22. The eggs were then placed in an incubator at a fixed temperature. At the end of the specified time, the eggs were taken out and they hatched today.

He said earlier the hatching rate of crocodile eggs in this centre was 60-65 percent. "This is the first time that 100% of the babies have hatched. All our efforts have been successful."

"Earlier, traditional incubators were used. This is the first time we have achieved this success using a digital incubator," said the official.

After 62 days, the eggs were taken out from the digital incubator and they hatched, he added.
