All the vessels anchored at the jetties and the outer anchorage of Chattogram port are being sent to the deeper sea by this afternoon (October 24, 2022) as safety measure ahead of approaching cyclone Sitrang.

Earlier, loading and unloading activities at the port jetties and the lighterage of goods from bigger vessels at outer anchorage was also suspended.

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary, Md Omar Faruk, said a total of 18 vessels anchored at the jetties and 46 vessels anchored at the outer anchorage were sent to the deeper sea by 11:30am, reports our local staff correspondent.

The port authorities have put its own alert no. 3, the second highest security alert as per its Cyclone Disaster Preparedness and Post-Cyclone Rehabilitation Plan, 1992, in line with Bangladesh Meteorological Department hoisting danger signal no. 6 for the port, he added.

"We started taking steps to secure all the equipment and containers at the port area," said the CPA official.
